Karen Horan has a Master’s degree in clinical dietetics from the University of Dentistry of New Jersey, is both a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, and has a Certificate in Weight Loss Management from the American Dietetic Association. After completing her Master’s degree Karen was employed as dietitian coordinator at The Molly Diabetes Education/Management Center at Hackensack University Medical Center for nine years. Her responsibilities in this position included: developing nutrition programs and education curriculum, educating both adults and pediatric patients with diabetes, and participating in nutrition related quality improvement initiatives.
Karen currently works as the Pre-Doctoral Fellow for The Department of Nutritional Sciences, School of Health Related Professions at UMDNJ. She continues to teach at the university as an adjunct instructor. Additionally, she has been a clinical preceptor for both UMDNJ and Montclair State dietetic intern students and was an active member of The Dietetic Intern Selection Committee at UMDNJ. Recently, she has participated in the development of the nutrition course curriculum for the certification for wellness coaches for persons with mental illness and co-morbid medical disorders through the Department of Psychiatry at UMDNJ.
