Edwards is a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, long term care, home health, physician practice and managed care organizations. For the past 15 years, she has worked in a number of areas with a statewide focus on community and public health. In addition to her nursing degree, Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Occupations Education from North Carolina State University, and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
In addition to her role with Fit4D, Laura is the Program Coordinator for a statewide diabetes education program. The program establishes diabetes education programs across North Carolina with an emphasis on serving the underserved, particularly in rural areas with high rates of poverty. She believes that increasing access to self-management education is great way to reach out to people with diabetes.
Laura joined Fit4D because of her passion to provide education and support to people with diabetes. “There are several members of my family who have Type 2 diabetes, and I see their ongoing struggles to maintain good control. I want to empower people with diabetes to learn to manage their disease, so they can prevent complications and improve their quality of life.”
